Running vista and had a hard drive crash due to a power interrupton in sleep mode. Could not get the recovery disc to work, so got a new hard drive. Recovery disc starts and offers the option of restoring the computer to factory settings. Get to about 22% restored and system stops. Error code Ox40011000200001005 shows up. I'm asked to acknowledge the error and when I do, system just goes to blue screen and does nothing more. If I don't acknowledge the error, the system just sits idle. Tried putting an old hard drive( not the bad one) in that was exactly the same as the new one and it boots up fine. Anyone have any what the heck is going on? Thanks.

i have an older maxtor 300 GB external drive ...
the partition was deleted from another computer but the files are still there .. i used a free trial sofware to see if they still existed..
my question is ...
since maxtor was taken over by seagate ... which software should i use to recover my files????
which is the easiest recovery software to use to get the job done????
will "seagate file recovery" work well for me??
thanx in advance!!
Tags: Help, Hard, Software, External, familiar, NEEDEDwell woke up this morning and turned on my laptop, just to find out the HD is doing this clicking sound. Then it tells me, it can not find the operating system. So i took it to compusa and bestbuy and both of them referred me to the big companies. like, DriveSavers. and when i called and explained to them, they told me it'll cost u about $2500 or more!!! i only got my music library and some old pics that i really need. oh and its a 80 gig HD. So my question is ... is there any way i can recover the data i need by myself or not? and if not what other options and "big companies" that can recover it for me are there?(that can be cheaper... if possible?!?)
Thanks a lot in advance. oh and im in the USA
I have a Toshiba HDD2188 80GB laptop hard drive I am trying to recover data from. I thought about buying the VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter to get the data from it. Will the pinset fit? 43, 4. I think it will work but im not 100% sure.
