First of all, I don't want a software to try to recover data on my own. Tried it and failed.
My hard disk drive had some kind of a malfunction and I took it out and replaced it with a new one.
Unfortunately I was not able to recover all data from my backup. Don't know why. Only went back to a certain time in the past and then nothing.
I need video and picture data, if it's still on the damaged disk, before a certain date. It's mostly sentimental stuff, and nothing vitally important.
Are there any companies out there that I can send my damaged disk and have them try to recover the data?
Thanks.
Tags: hard disk drive, some, Don, Recovery, nothingMy hard drive took a fall a while back, and now I am left wondering if the data is recoverable. The drive still spins, and doesn't make any bad noises, so I know thats a good sign, but it doesn't show up in Windows. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good software for recovering files from the drive. Also, if anyone knows of a program that has a free trial that shows me all the files that it would be able to recover if I actually brought the program, that would be ideal. thanks
I need a software for my hard drive cause well it had a technical problem and the only way to access it was to format it and losted all my videos and stuff T^T i have the programs to get it back but none of them picked up any rvmb, is there any out there? it has to be free though
My external hard drive died out of nowhere. I plugged it as usual and it didn't detect. So I disassembled the external and installed that hard drive into the desktop. When I boot up into windows it detects the hard drive but it shows as an unallocated drive.
Is there any software (free or for purchase) that will allow me to see my data?
Is DOD or Gutmann HDD wiping excessive?
Is single pass zero write to a drive good enough? Do you have a good reference to cite to support that?
I work for company that doesn't have any secrets that would be wanted by a well funded organization that could pay for super exotic data recovery. My boss is writing a policy to scrubbing drives and he thinks we need to use the DOD standard, I think it is excessive and will waste time.
I am somewhat of a hard drive recovery expert myself, and I have never seen a method to recover data from a file that has been overwritten. I know there are way to recover data from remapped sectors, which is usually minimal data anyways. A 35 pass wipe wouldn't give you a advantage over 1 wipe in that case.
I think there is zero advantage to multiple wipe over single wipe. According to Peter Gutmann is theoretically possible to recover data after rewrite by using a Magnetic Force Scanning Tunneling Microscope. I couldn't imagine it taking less then weeks and cost 100's thousands of dollars with that method. I can't find any data recovery service that can claim to recover overwritten sectors. Maybe the NSA or CIA does it on super important stuff, but no one is talking about it.
I found this reference http://www.nber.org/sys-admin/overwritten-data-gutmann.html
Anybody else find any references confirming or rejecting this idea?
one pass enough for hard drive wipe, one pass zeros good
